Vietnam Airlines received the 6 millionth passenger of 2005 at Noi Bai Internationa Airport in Hanoi on December 28.

The passenger was Rainer Hoffmann from Frankfurt of Germany. This was the first time he had come to Vietnam.

The 6 millionth passenger arrived at the Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi with his wife on a direct Boeing 777 flight carried by Vietnamese Airlines from Frankfurt to Hanoi.

The national flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines, also conducted 50,000 flights this year, almost 5,000 more than last year, all of them safe.

This is the ninth consecutive year that Vietnam Airlines has earned an impressive safety record, in the context of increasing fuel and plane leasing prices, tough competition against other aviation firms tapping the Vietnamese market, the threat of avian flu outbreak, natural disasters and insecurity worldwide.

Vietnam Airlines also transported 97,000 tonnes of cargo, a year-on-year increase of 6%.

The Vietnam Airlines Corporation is striving to become a strong economic group by 2010, with a target of transporting 12 million passengers and 205,000 tonnes of cargo.
