Việt Nam helps disabled children

The Party and the State have always created the best conditions possible for Vietnamese children, ịncluding the handicapped, to help them integrate into the community and contribute to the country, said Vice State President Trương Mỹ Hoa.

Addressing the 3rd National Congress ofthe Việt Nam Association for Disabled Children in Hà Nội, Hoa said association members should increase their understanding and efficiency.

 

She askeđ the association to continue upgrading existing facilities, to build more establishments and to raise the quality of medical check ups and treatment for disabled children.

 

ln additíon to providing needy children with education, vocational training and jobs, the association should attract more aid from Vietnamese and for eigners, she said.

 

Founded in 1993, the Việt Nam Association for Disabled Children has provided treatment and functional rehabilitation for more than 300 disabled children.

 

From 1999 to 2004, it offered međical check ups and treatment to 175,000 children.

 

The association aims to increase the number of its current 38 centres for disabled children to 48 and its members from 4,000 to 8,000 nation-wide during the 2005-2010 period.

 

The congress elecled a 42-member executive committee with Vice State President Trương Mỹ Hoa as honorary president and Prof Nguyễn Tài Thu as president of the association for a third tenure (2005- 2010).

 

Party General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh sent a letter, and Prime Minister Phan Văn Khải, a basket of flowers, to the congress.
