Viet Nam advances to ASEAN women’s soccer semi-finals

Viet Nam trounced Malaysia 9-0 in the second match of Group A on Sept. 9, booking an early berth in the semi-finals of the third ASEAN Women’s Football Championships being held in Myanmar.

Ngoc Cham contributed five goals to the glorious victory, bringing her total number of goals at the tournament to eight. Meanwhile, her teammate Kim Chi scored two goals and the remainder by Hong Nga and Kim Tien.


In the opening match two days earlier, the Vietnamese players also secured a 9-0 win over rivals from the Philippines.


With six points, Viet Nam is likely to top Group A and will meet either Thailand or host Myanmar from Group B that had qualified for the semi-finals.


Also o­n Sept. 9, Indonesia beat the Philippines 3-2 in another Group A match.


Eight national women's soccer teams from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), namely Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam, are competing for the title at the tourney, which is hosted by Myanmar from Sept. 6-15.
