Social and humanitarian activities towards women and children to be promoted

The Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) and the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VNRC) will work together in social and humanitarian activities from 2018 to 2022 under the framework of a joint agreement signed in Hanoi on April, with a focus on implementing “Support for women in border and island areas” program.

  The signing ceremony was co-chaired by Mdm. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha,VWU president, and Mdm. Nguyen Thi Xuan Thu, VNRC President. Especially, actress Nha Phuong attended the event as goodwill ambassador of the program.

The joint agreement between the VWU and the VNRC aims to strengthen the effectiveness of collaboration, improve the quality of social and humanitarian activities, contributing to raising the awareness and responsibility of officials, members, women and volunteers in the tradition of compassion and solidarity among the communities;take care of the poor and well implement the social welfare policies of the Party and State, thus strengthening the organizational development.

Under the joint agreement, activities will be focused o­n education and communication to raise the awareness of officials, members and volunteers o­n the Party’s humanitarian and social welfare policies, International Law o­n Humanity and Law o­n Gender Equality;fund raising for humanitarian construction works and social welfare projects as well as implementation of the joint programme “Support for women in border and island areas” during 2018-2022.

At the signing ceremony, Mdm. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, VWU President said that along with the socio-economic development, there are many critical issues, such as: typhoons, floods, natural disasters, climate change, domestic violence, and sexual abuse… And women and girls are always more vulnerable and disadvantaged, especially women in ethnic minority areas, remote areas, disabled women, and single mums.

Mdm. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha affirmed that the joint agreement between the VWU and the VNRC is a practical activity to achieve the goal of “no o­ne is left behind in the development process”. President Nguyen Thi Thu Ha also believed that with the humanitarian purpose, the determination and great efforts of the two sides, the collaboration program will be successful with numerous effective activities.

Mdm. Nguyen Thi Xuan Thu, VNRC President joyfully informed thatthe VNRC at all levels has actively participated in the SMS campaign to raise fund for supporting women in border and island areas launched by the VWU and received enthusiastic response from their members and volunteers. To date, the program hasreceived numerous messages, equivalent to more than 700 million dong.

Actress Nha Phuong expressed her deep emotion and great pride in being honored to be the programme’s goodwill ambassador. She also wanted to make her contribution to support women and children, especially poor women and children in disadvantaged and remote areas to overcome difficulties. And in her role, she will share the program to the society, particularly to the youth in order to have more support for the program.

At the ceremony, all the participants sent messages to support women in border and island areas. As an initial result, o­n April 17th, the VWU, the VNRC and the National Humanitarian Portal 1409provided the fund raisedfrom the program to the first five poor women’s families in Phong Nam commune, Trung Khanh district, Cao Bang province, with VND 10 million per household to purchase breeding pigs for household economic development. After escaping the poor, these families will return the funds to the program to support other households in need. Also, free health check-up, medicines and gifts giving to 200 poor women in the mentioned commune were done o­n the same day.
