Orientation Workshop on Access to Coordinated Credit and Enterprise Development Services

27/09/2007
The workshop was organized from 29 to 30 August in Hanoi with the participation of core cadres from 17 provincial/municipal Women’s Unions working on the project “Access to Coordinated Credit and Enterprise Development Services.”

This is phase III of the Vietnamese – Belgian Credit Project (“Strengthening of the Institutional Capacity of the Vietnam Women’s Union to Management Savings and Credit Programs”) funded by Belgium and implemented in provinces/cities of northern, central and southern regions beginning in 1997. In 3 years (from April 2007 to June 2010), the project “Access to Coordinated Credit and Enterprise Development Services” will have been implemented in 17 provinces/cities, including 75 districts and more than 150 communes, with the goal of providing 50,000 poor women access to micro financial services.

This workshop was an occasion for VWU’s cadres to share experiences, orient and find measures in order to improve the quality and effect of credit to diverse borrowers; develop mechanisms; and arrange the management of activities of the project management board. The success of the project will contribute to helping the VWU implement the objective of assisting women in economic development as well as poverty reduction in the country.

Phase III of the Vietnamese – Belgian Credit Project will give priority to women in rural and remote areas, ethnic minority women, and poor women who have not been properly attended to by credit organizations.
