the unyielding and legendary young girls of “Huong River” (Perfume River) in olden times met again and paid their first visit to Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and Head Office of the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU). VWU Vice-Presidents Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa and Truong Thi Khue warmly welcomed and received the delegation.

Founded in early 1967, in Lunar New Year - “Tet Mau Than” 1968, the Squad “11 Young Girls of Huong River”, for the first time, joined a battle which was a historical one to liberate Thua Thien-Hue province. Their squad had to fight against a warlike battalion of the enemy but they won a resounding victory and for that Uncle Ho sent them Letter of Complement. However 6 membersamong them had laid down their lifeforeverat their young age for the country. In March 1968, the squad had been supplemented and became a platoon called Vo Thi Sau – the name of a young heroine in the Red Soil Region. Following the heroic tradition of Vo Thi Sau, the platoon continued to achieve glorious feats of arms, contributing to the final victory of the country.

Now they all turn grey. Some of them even passed away. Every one has different circumstance and some with wounds of war. However, all of them always show strong will to overcome difficulties and faithfulness towards the country, the Party and Uncle Ho and actively contributed to the development of their native land.

At the meeting, leaders of VWU reviewed honorable tradition and great contribution of the platoon. VWU leaders also informed the delegation about achievement of VWU over the past years; its key tasks for the coming years, especially about preparation activities for the 10th National Women’s Congress. VWU Vice-Presidents expressed their pleasure to have a meeting with the platoon members and hope that they will keep their resilience and remain bright examples for young generations, especially young women nowadays.
