Japanese traditional dolls exhibition held

Japanese artists brought over 400 traditional dolls of their country to an exhibition at the Vietnam Women's Museum at 36 Ly Thuong Kiet, Hanoi from October 19-22

The exhibition was held o­n the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Vietnam Women's Union by Sachiei and Kuniei Doll Associations (Japan) in co-ordination with the Vietnam Women's Union.

Kimekomi-styled traditional dolls were displayed following an old story with attractive costumes and characters. The exhibition also displayed over 20 types of traditional kimono of Japanese women. Visitors were given chances to try o­n these kimonos and take photographs.

In addition, two doll-making classes for Hanoi Women's Union staff, kindergarten teachers and others were opened by artists of the Sachiei and Kuniei Doll Association.

The exhibition helps boost the cultural exchange, friendship and mutual understanding between Vietnam and Japan.

Three centuries ago, at the 1736-1741 period, the Kimekomi doll was made of wood pieces by Taknhashi tadashige. After years, the doll with its typicai features is still loved and developed by Japanese people. o­n February 6, 1978, the Kimekomi doll was chosen as the national traditional product of Japan by the Japanese Ministry of Industry and Transport.
