20/02/2006
The "New Germany" newspaper in its January 9 edition published an article entitled "The economic miracle in Vietnam", praising the continuously high economic growth in the country in recent years.

Although Vietnam has not yet joined the World Trade Organisation (WTO), the country has maintained a successful economic story over the years with its 2005 GDP reaching 8.1%, the newspaper said.

Since 1993, Vietnam's economic growth has averaged around 7%. Its development prospect in the future is quite bright. The World Bank has predicted that Vietnam would likely attain an economic growth of 8%, or even more than 10%, in the coming years.

Vietnam's major export items include garments and textiles, footwear, rice, coffee, sea products, pepper, crude oil, personnel computers and wooden products.

Vietnam's economic success was firstly based on a young, skilled and ambitious workforce.
