The Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, and the Government and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front have issued a special communiqué, announcing that General Secretary of the CPV Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong passed away at 1:38pm on July 19, 2024, and his funeral will be held as a national mourning.

With his practical experience through two terms as Chairman of the National Assembly (NA), the 11th and 12th tenures, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong gave comprehensive and objective instructions on the organisation and activities of the legislature, and had close directions related to innovation so that it can becomes more perfect.

The great efforts and significant contributions of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to elevating Vietnam's diplomacy and foreign relations were highlighted in an article written by member of the Party Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son.
