14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Viet Nam opens in Hanoi

With the motto "Solidarity - Democracy - Discipline - Breakthrough - Development," the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Viet Nam took place in Hanoi from January 19 to 25, 2026.

The theme of the Congress is: “Under the glorious flag of the Party, uniting in strength and determination to successfully achieve national development goals by 2030; strategic self-reliance, self-strengthening and confidence, advancing strongly in the era of the nation’s rise, for peace, independence, democracy, prosperity, affluence, civilisation and happiness, steadfastly moving toward socialism.”

Attending the Congress are 1,586 delegates representing more than 5.6 million Party members nationwide. Male delegates number 1,285, making up 81.02%, while female delegates total 301, or 18.98%. Delegates from ethnic minority groups number 167, accounting for 10.53%.

The event was also attended by 205 domestic guests and 111 ambassadors, chargés d’affaires, and heads of diplomatic missions and international organizations in Vietnam.

The Congress has received a total of 898 congratulatory letters and messages from 167 political parties, 17 international organizations, 78 individuals, 242 foreign political, friendship, and mass organizations and localities, and 394 associations of overseas Vietnamese. The messages conveyed profound interest and warm sentiments towards the Communist Party of Việt Nam (CPV), the Vietnamese State and people. They delivered positive and comprehensive assessments, reflecting growing political support for the CPV’s leadership role, and the country’s development orientation in the new period.

On January 22, delegates elected the 14th Party Central Committee, comprising 180 full members and 20 alternate members.

The 14th Party Central Committee reached absolute consensus in electing General Secretary of the 13th Party Central Committee To Lam as General Secretary of the 14th Party Central Committee.

Among the 180 full members of the 14th Central Committee, 21 are women, accounting for 11.66%, reflecting the growing role of women in leadership, policy-making and national governance.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyen, member of the 13th Central Committee, Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and President of the Vietnam Women’s Union, was elected to the 14th Party Central Committee.
