Working for community

13/02/2006
Vinh SOS children village is located in a quiet place in Vinh city, where about 200 orphans are living and learning in various families. A mother is in charge of a family.

Mothers in the village have helped disadvantaged children in the village integrate into the community and overcome their difficulties soon. Students from Vinh college and Nghe An teachers’ training college have helped the village to achieve this objective. Director of the village Van Dinh Danh said that Vinh city was among the first localities in the country that had sent students to help children in the village. The students have left good impressions on the village’s staff members, including mothers.

In the evening, the village seems more merrier with the presence of volunteer students. They come to the village, bringing along their happiness and smiles for the children. In addition to organising of games for children and helping them to play, volunteer students have also taught them and shared with them their thoughts. As a result, the sentiment between the students and the children has become closer.

Mother Nguyen Thi Vinh, 53, who was an ex-young volunteer and injured in the anti-US resistance war, said that she was yet to get married and had worked here for 14 years. The village is her family. So far, she has raised 18 children, of whom nine have grown up and become workers and students in Hanoi. She is happy with their good obedience and education. She also had a good impression on volunteer students from the city’s colleges. Though they are young, they have been enthusiastic and shared disadvantages with the  children and become older brothers and sisters of the children.

Students have not only carried out their activities at the village, they have also launched other activities for community.
