Women with intellectual property and scientific research seminar

On the morning of January 18th, 2013, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Association for Intellectual Women in collaboration with the Department of Intellectual Property, the Vietnam-Finland Innovation Cooperation Program, and the Communication, Education and Technology JSC MEDUTEC, organized the seminar “Women with intellectual property and scientific research”.

This activity aimed to enhance the contribution of female intellectuals in social and economic development, create an interesting forum where ideas and resources could be shared among female intellectuals and highlight the often underestimated ability of women, and by doing so, and promote gender equality. A large number of female intellectual delegates, and representatives from the Department of Intellectual Property and the Vietnam-Finland Innovation Partners Program (IPP) participated in the seminar.

At the seminar, participants were provided with information and scenarios surrounding Intellectual Property Law. Nowadays, female intellectuals play an increasingly important role in scientific research agencies and businesses. Therefore, proper implementation of the law o­n intellectual property rights is essential to protect the interests of female intellectuals in particular and scientists in general.

The seminar "Women with intellectual property and scientific research" is an activity of the “Vietnamese Women intellectuals with creative activities" Project, chaired by the Vietnam Association for Intellectual Women under the management of the Ministry of Science and Technology. The project will take place from May 1st, 2013 to December 2013, with the aim to support the commercialization of research by women scientists, to create real value for society, and to promote the research results of intellectual women.

The project will be organized through a series of seminars shown o­n television, which will be televised o­nce a month during the project timeframe. Each television program will cover different topics such as agriculture, industry, medicine, and so o­n, with the contents revolving around the understanding of intellectual property and discussing the research results of female scientists. The program will be aired at 10am o­n the fourth Saturday of every month o­n VTC1 channel-VTC Digital Television.

Also in the framework of the television program, the research results of Dr. Le Thi Thuy, Deputy Head of Cooperation of Science and International Relations at the Institute of Animal Husbandry surrounding the hybridization of village pigs and forest pigs were introduced and received encouragement and support from participants. These pigs are now being raised o­n a large-scale o­n the farm of Mrs. Do Thi Nhi, director of the Thuan Hai company in Son La province. These hybrid pigs have many advantages as they are easy to raise, can eat available agricultural products, have high resistance to disease, produce meat with a high nutritional value and good flavor, etc. Together participants discussed methods to commercialize the research results of Dr. Le Thi Thuy, to practically apply the research results and bring economic benefits to famers, as well as social benefits to consumers.

The Vietnam Association for Intellectual Women

The Vietnam Association for Intellectual Women was established under Decision No. 176/QD-BNV of the Ministry of Interior o­n February 25th, 2011. On 8 March, the official launch and the First Congress in Hanoi were held. The executive board of the Vietnam Association for Intellectual Women for the 2011-2016 term includes 35 members. Professor Pham Thi Tran Chau is Chairwoman and the Vice President of the State, Mme. Nguyen Thi Doan, is the Honorary Chairwoman of the Vietnam Association for Intellectual Women.

The Vietnam Association for Intellectual Women is a member organization of the Vietnam Women's Union, managed by the Ministry of Science and Technology and other ministries related to the field of the Association’s activities. As a social-professional organization, the Vietnam Association for Intellectual Women aims to promote solidarity and women’s intellectual strengths to achieve equality and the development of Vietnamese women, thereby contributing to the development of the country.
