VWU President welcomes Mr. Joakim Parker, Director of USAID in Vietnam

On June 20th, 2014, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, VWU President had a cordial meeting with Mr. Joakim Parker, Director of USAID in Vietnam at the VWU headquarters.

At the meeting, Ms. Thanh Hoa briefly introduced about the VWU functions and tasks, particularly emphasizing o­n monitoring the enforcement of laws and policies o­n gender equality and and giving social counter-arguments to such laws and policies, enhancing capacity of grassroots WU staff, supporting female candidates running for office the first time, improving live of ethnic minority women. The VWU’s priority is to attract and mobilize resources to narrow down gender gap, empower women economically, set up women’s savings bank and micro-insurance fund, run micro-insurance activities for rural women, support victims of human trafficking and domestic violence and enhance women’s capacity in coping with climate change…

 

Mr. Joakim Parker showed his high appreciation of VWU role and its recent achievements. The targets set by VWU are similar to the coming activities of USAID, which would open up potential cooperation between the two organizations. Mr. Parker expressed his hope for the VWU’s participation in USAID’s projects such as supporting micro-finance for women in the Mekong Delta and female entrepreneurs network development…
