On behalf of the VWU, Ms. Tuyen expressed her pleasure in welcoming Mr. Anders Johnsson and his spouse, Ms. Kyra Nunez-Johnsson to visit Vietnam, especially as Vietnam is carrying out numerous meaningful activities to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification.

This is also a special occasion for Vietnam to convey its deep appreciation to international friends, including the former IPU Secretary General and his spouse, for their steadfast support during the nation's struggle for independence and its ongoing development.

At the meeting, the VWU President emphasized that through Mr. Johnsson’s strong and effective advocacy, the relationship between Vietnam’s National Assembly and the IPU was significantly strengthened, most notably in supporting Vietnam’s successful hosting of the 132nd IPU Assembly in 2014.

In promoting women's participation in politics, the VWU highly values the IPU’s companionship. "Today, women account for around 30% of Vietnam’s National Assembly deputies, ranking among the highest group in the region and globally. This achievement has been made possible thanks to the encouragement and support of the international community, including the significant efforts of the IPU and Mr. Anders Johnsson over the years," President Nguyen Thi Tuyen proudly announced.

President Tuyen expressed her hope for continued attention, support, experience sharing, and advocacy from them to help Vietnamese women further strengthen their leadership roles and actively participate in national and global processes.
