VWU President Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa attends signing ceremony of “Lao Cai Haengbok Program”
Lao Cai Haengbok Program with the slogan “Make a happy Lao Cai together! Make a better Vietnam together!” supported by KOICA grant with a total cost of 14 million U.S. dollars, focuses on three areas: health, education and community development. Objectives of the program are to improve people’s living standards through training and increasing human resources quality for socio – economic development, thus reducing poverty and improving living environment.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, President Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa showed high appreciation of the support from the Korean Government for Lao Cai province in which women are participants and beneficiaries. She also introduced a number of the VWU ongoing activities which contribute to Happy Program in Lao Cai province such as the campaign “Building the family of 5 Without-s and 3 Clean-s” and the project “Educating 5 million mothers on good parenting over the period of 2010-2015”.
In Lao Cai Haengbok Program, Lao Cai Provincial Women’s Union is expected to participate in the health component which includes building clubs “Mothers nurse and educate their children well”. With KOICA volunteers, Lao Cai WU’s members spent a day cleaning up the campus of Lao Cai Obstetric and Pediatric Hospital.
After the signing ceremony, the delegates visited Lao Cai Obstetric and Pediatric Hospital and Lao Cai General Hospital. VWU President Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa presented gifts to the hospital’s staff and some disadvantaged patients. on the same day, she attended the opening ceremony for building rural roads in Giang Tra village, Sa Pa commune, Sa Pa district, visited a photography class for Sa Pa elementary pupils which was organized with the support from Korea. She also spent time visiting Minh Duc General Construction Company Limited which has been conferred the Third Class Labour Medal and has a well operating WU.
Lao Cai Haengbok Program is a meaningful program for the development of Lao Cai province. The WU’s participation in this program shows the care of the Korean Government and Lao Cai provincial leaders for the development of women and gender equality.
