VWU delegation attends 2nd Korea – Vietnam Women’s Forum in Seoul

From June 24th-28th, 2014, the VWU’s delegation led by its Vice President Nguyen Thi Kim Thuy attended the 2nd Korea - Vietnam Women’s Forum in Seoul, Korea.

With the theme "Women Entrepreneurs and job creation for women laborers”, the Forum attracted more than 100 participants, including parliamentarians,intellectuals, businessmen from the research institutes, policy-making agencies, Banks, Association of Women Entrepreneurs, and corporations in Korea. The Forum was also attended by some male delegates.

 

At the Forum, Vice President Nguyen Thi Kim Thuy confirmed the relevance of the Forum’s theme to Vietnam as it is in the process of promoting industrialization and modernization and building new rural areas which necessitates the women’s participation. She emphasized that the prosperity of women-owned enterprises and availability of good employment opportunities for women are important targets for women’s economic empowerment. The VWU has made ​​great efforts and achieved successes in supporting women in economic development and sustainable poverty reduction, of which supporting women owned enterprises and job creation for women laborers are prioritized targets. In this aspect, the VWU has received valuable assistance by international partners, including the Government and people of Korea.

 

At the Forum, 2 presentations o­n "Creative industry and employment for women workers" by Korean representative and "Supporting women entrepreneurs and job creation for women laborers of the Vietnam Women's Union" by Vietnamese representative attracted attention of the participants. The participants also discussed issues related to the government's policy to create equal opportunities for female employees while economic development requires further application of innovative technologies in all fields and sectors. A discussion took place between the two sides about the tentative theme and timing of the 3rd Forum to be held in Vietnam. The KWDI has also arranged for the VWU’s delegation to visit the new Village Byungnaery, a job-creating establishment for women laborers, a credit and agricultural services co-op, and a herbal tea cooperative.

 

On the sideline of the Forum, the delegation had a meeting with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family regarding cooperation in the field of international marriage and empowerment for women; attended thea training o­n creativeness at the National Library of Korea, which highlighted the potentials and power of Korea’s creativity; visited the Vietnam Embassy in Korea andhad a training session o­n women-outreaching skills for the Vietnam women's organization in South Korea.
