Prior to the General Assembly was the ACWO Board meeting with the presence of 9 member countries (except for Myanmar). The meeting adopted the minute of the previous ACWO Board meeting, financial report and discussed the establishment of ACWO Permanent Secretariat, etc. ACWO members also presented their country report on the implementation of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). on behalf of the Vietnam delegation, Vice President Tran Thi Huong shared Vietnam’s results in MDGs implementation and VWU’s contribution to this progress.
Under the theme “Equality for women is progress for all – Achieving the MDGs in ASEAN”, the ACWO General Assembly discussed and approved “2014 ACWO Accord on Building the ASEAN Community” (Please find the link below for the full Accord). On this occasion, the host – NCWO handed over the 2014-2016 ACWO presidency to the National Council of Women of Thailand.
During its stay in Malaysia, the delegation worked with several Malaysian organizations, including NCWO, the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, and IOM Malaysia on the situation of Malaysian women, policies for women’s development, support programs for migrant workers and foreign brides. They also discussed with the Vietnam Embassy in Malaysia on the situation of Vietnamese community, migrant workers and brides in Malaysia, and met with a number of overseas Vietnamese women to get to know their living.
