VWU celebrates 84th Anniversary and presents 2014 Vietnam Women’s Awards

On October 17th, a ceremony to celebrate the 84th anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) and the Vietnam Women’s Day (October 20th) and to present the 2014 Vietnam Women’s Awards was held at the VWU’s Center for Women and Development.

The ceremonywas attended by Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan - President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF), Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan - Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam National Assembly; female leaders of the Party, State, National Assembly, ministries, agencies, Fatherland Front, mass organizations; the groups and individuals winning the 2014 Vietnam Women’s Awards; female students having scored the highest marks in the 2014-2015 tertiary entrance exams and Hanoi City WU’s staff and members.

 

In her opening speech, VWU President Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa recalled fine traditions of Vietnamese women and expressed her gratefulness to heroines, grandmothers and mothers for their contributions to the national construction and defense as well as the development of Vietnamese women’s movement and their advancement.

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, VFF President Nguyen Thien Nhan affirmed and acknowledged Vietnamese women’s contributions from the past to the era of deep international integration and appreciated VWU continuous efforts in the national construction and defense as well as in striving for equality and women's development. He also asked relevant agencies to study, propose and issue specific policies to promote Vietnamese women’s potential and creativeness and to create favorable conditions for the VWU to operate more effectively and practically.

VWU President Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa presents a VND12 billion patrol vessel to

the Vietnam Coast Guard


At the ceremony, o­n behalf of VWU members nationwide, VWU President Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa presented a VND 4 billion CQ canoe to the Navy and a VND 12 billion patrol vessel to the Coast Guard, coming from voluntary contributions made by VWU members and women across the country in the campaign “Joining hands for the nation’s seas and islands” launched by the Central VWU.

On this occasion, the VWU also granted certificates of merits to some provincial WUs and units with outstanding achievements in communicating to and mobilizing women to make contributions towards the nation’s seas and islands and 28 female students having achieved best results in the entrance examination to universities and colleges in 2014; presented the 2014 Vietnam Women’s Awards to 5 groups and 10 individuals with outstanding achievements in different fields such as economy, culture - art, education, diplomacy, security and national defense, management and business.

At the ceremony, the VWU also received nearly VND 5 billion from the TH True Milk and the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) to support Vietnamese women and children.
