VWU awarded the Merit Medal “For the Development of Women in Vietnam” to UNAIDS Vietnam Country Director.

In the evening of 15th August 2012, on behalf of the Standing Presidium of the Central VWU, Mme. Tran Thanh Binh - VWU Vice-President awarded the Merit Medal “ For the Development of Women in Vietnam” to Mr. Eamonnn Francis Murphy, UNAIDS Vietnam Country Director.

 

Since 2007, in the position of UNAIDS Vietnam Country Director, Mr. Eamonn Francis Murphy has greatly contributed to the equality and development of women in Vietnam. He has cooperated closely with the VWU in improving the capacity of WU staff of different levels in implementing HIV/AIDS prevention and control activities, supported the program of food hygiene and nutrition provision for women affected by HIV and orphans/vulnerable children, supported the VWU to successfully develop activities of the Global Fund-circle 6, supported HIV/AIDS victims with Methadone treatment, supported to coordinate donors’ funds to WUs at different levels.


The contribution of Mr. Murphy is acknowledged not o­nly by the VWU, but also by concerned ministries, sectors and social organizations in Vietnam. Speaking at the farewell party for Mr. Murphy at his term expiration, Mr. Truong Vinh Trong, former Deputy Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, showed high appreciation to Mr. Murphy’s initiatives and effortsfor HIV/AIDS prevention and control in Vietnam.

 

At the farewell party, Mr. Murphy was very moved to the sincerity and sentiments showed by the Vietnamese Government, people and the VWU. He also expressed high appreciation of the cooperation from Vietnamese Government, the VWU and other actors in HIV/AIDS prevention & control during the past 5 years.
