Vietnam Women’s Union meets newly appointed heads of Vietnamese diplomatic missions for 2014-2017 term

At the meeting, VWU President Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa informed the delegates about general situation of Vietnamese women and VWU current main activities. She affirmed women’s status and role in various areas such as economy, politics, society, family and that the quality of female cadres in the State management and leadership has been increasing. The VWU President highlighted the Party and the State attention paid to gender equality which is reflected through the Party resolutions on women work, the State policies, laws, national programs on gender equality... and expressed that
VWU President expected that the heads of Vietnamese diplomatic missions would be a bridge, contributing to selling the image of Vietnamese women and the VWU to international friends, introducing international experiences in promoting gender equality to the VWU, and would support overseas Vietnamese women, especially trafficked ones and those engaged in marriage relations involving foreign elements.
Mr. Thach Du, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Cambodia, on behalf of the delegation, showed high appreciation of the VWU’s recent achievements, the contribution of Vietnamese women in the national construction and development including the country’s diplomacy. He also expected that the cooperation between the VWU and Vietnamese diplomatic missions will be further developed in the future.
On behalf of the VWU, President Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa expressed thanks to the newly appointed heads of Vietnamese diplomatic missions and affirmed to cooperate more actively with the diplomatic missions to better implement the tasks in the future, especially for the development of Vietnamese women.
For the 2014-2017 term, women have been appointed as heads of Vietnamese diplomatic missions with the highest rate ever (5/37).
