VWU Vice President Tran Lan Phuong delivers opening remarks at the training

Speaking at the opening, VWU Vice President Tran Lan Phuong said supporting women in economic development remains a core mission of the VWU, aligned with national goals on sustainable development and global integration. She noted that VWU’s initiatives have turned state policies into practical programs, encouraging entrepreneurship and promoting women’s economic self-reliance.

During the current term, the VWU has supported more than 174,000 women-led households escape poverty, assisted over 57,000 women in starting businesses, and provided advice to more than 51,000 newly established women-owned enterprises. Thousands of e-commerce courses have been organized, helping boost cross-border sales by 30 percent. The VWU has also promoted the establishment of 666 cooperatives with women in management, over 2,000 collective groups with 31,000 female members, and training for nearly 240,000 women entrepreneurs and cooperative managers. On financial inclusion, more than 2.8 million households have accessed loans with outstanding balances exceeding VND 180 trillion ($7.1 billion), including VND 148 trillion entrusted through the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies.

Alongside its achievements, the VWU faces challenges in implementation, particularly administrative restructuring and uneven capacity at the local level, where many staff are newly appointed. This makes training on women’s economic development essential, with programs covering entrepreneurship support, collective economic development, poverty reduction, and the national strategy for financial inclusion, etc.
