Vietnam Women’s Union appreciates contributions of women artists, writers and journalists

Attending the meeting were Mr. Nguyen The Ky - Deputy Head of the Party’s Central Propaganda Commission, Poet Huu Thinh - President of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Art Associations, VWU Vice Presidents, leaders of ministries and central agencies and about 100 outstanding women journalists, artists and writers having made significant contributions to promoting the images of Vietnamese women to the world and enhancing gender equality. The meeting was to recognize their contributions to the country, Vietnamese women’s movements, women advancement and gender equality.
Speaking at the meeting, President Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa highly appreciated the role of women artists, writers and journalists saying that “Women writers, journalists and artists have been nurturing national identity, world cultural values, making significant contributions to the country, women’s movements and gender equality. Your works and writings have reflected vividly social and cultural life. You have not only focused on finding and encouraging new elements, highlighting good people, good work but also actively given ideas and social counter-arguments to the law enforcement and issues related to social protection, …, participated in fighting against bureaucracy, corruption, degradation of morality and lifestyle, etc., thus contributing to improving women’s role and position in the family and society”. She also informed participants of the VWU’s activities and Vietnamese women’s movements, and encouraged them to make greater efforts in enhancing women artists’ position in and contribution to the cause of national construction. In the intimate atmosphere of the meeting, many concerned issues were openly discussed by the participants like gender equality, female staff training and developing; under-evaluation of contribution of women in general and women artists in particular, roles of female artists, writers and journalists in preserving and promoting Vietnamese women’s fine traditions; measures for promoting the contribution of the media, art and literature in gender equality and women’s development. At this forum, women artists, writers and journalists expressed their hope that the VWU would come up with proposals to facilitate women to better perform their roles in the family and society.
