Vietnam Women´s Union welcomed the Evaluation Committee of the IFAD Executive Board
On behalf of the Vietnam Women´s Union, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Thuy warmly welcomed the IFAD Evaluation Committee to the VWU and thanked IFAD in general and IFAD in Vietnam in particular for their support through programs and projects, especially in the field of poverty reduction and sustainable agricultural development over the past years, which women´s unions and local women participated in and benefited from.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Thuy introduced an overview of VWU, its organizational structure, as well as main tasks with a focus on the VWU’s microfinance activities. She also expressed the VWU’s interest in becoming a strategic partner in the IFAD poverty reduction programs in Vietnam.
Speaking at the meeting, the IFAD representatives highly appreciated the VWU roles in caring for and protecting the rights and interests of women and children, actively contributing to the agricultural and rural development in Vietnam. The Evaluation Committee members expressed their interests in the lives of women and children living in remote, isolated areas and of minority ethnic women, the challenges facing Vietnamese women and the VWU´s work, in the VWU’s microfinance activities as well as its role in strengthening women’s participation in politics and promoting gender equality. IFAD representatives also showed their commitment to continue the collaboration with partners in Vietnam, including the VWU in the coming time.
