Vietnam joins efforts to ensure human rights: President

President Triet made this statement in a message of congratulations addressed to the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which falls o­n December 10.

The President wrote that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights contains the essence of the noble spiritual values of all nations and has become a symbol of progress of humankind in the past century.

Vietnam, he said, believes that the lofty values contained within the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which have stood the test of time, would continue to be a foundation for co-operation, mutual understanding and trust among countries under the common United Nations umbrella, and create momentum for the sustainable development of humankind for the 21st century and beyond.
