The 2017 Vision Award for Inspiring Women

On the morning of October 16, 2017, the 2017 Vision Award for Inspiring Women was held at the Vietnamese Women’s Museum. This is the second consecutive year the Hanoi International Women’s Club (HIWC) has selected the Vietnamese Women's Museum as the co-organizer of this event.

For the last nine years, the HIWC Vision Award has honored women with the spirit of daring dreams and the determination to overcome personal endeavors to make dreams come true.
This year, HIWC honored Dr. Do Thuy Lan, director of Morning Star Center, with the 2017 Vision Award. After travelling abroad to study pediatric mental health, Dr. Lan established the Morning Star Center in Hanoi 22 years ago to provide high-quality services for children with intellectual disabilities and autism and to teach skills to prepare them to socially integrate into society. She was a leader in recognizing the need to integrate educational approaches with medical treatment for children with mental health problems. She was also instrumental in developing programs to help these children adapt to mainstream learning environments.
“I would like to express my great and sincere thanks to Hanoi International Women’s Club for recognizing and highly valuing my work. This award will be a great encouragement for me and my staff to continue our work and make a bigger effort to bring a brighter future to more and more children with intellectual disabilities and autism in Vietnam.” says Dr. Lan.
The Hanoi International Women’s Club is an international non profit group with over 450 members, representing more than 70 countries. Most members are foreign women living in Vietnam. The winner of the award receives a commemorative plaque, a small monetary reward, and the opportunity to publicize her work and activities through participation at the HIWC Annual Charity Bazaar.
