Say NO to Violence against Women

27/10/2008
1 in 3 women and girls may be beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused in their lifetime. This is an appalling human rights violation. Equally upsetting is that most women don’t dare to denounce their abusers because they are afraid of further violence and of being stigmatized. Many of them don’t know that the Laws of Gender Equality and on Prevention of Domestic Violence have been adopted by the Vietnamese National Assembly since 2007 and 2008 respectively, to protect their interests and rights.

On the occasion ofthe International Day for the Eliminations of Violence against Women this year (25 November 2008), in response to the global campaign “Say NO to Violence against Women” launched by UNIFEM, the Vietnam Women’s Union will join this campaign in Vietnam by gathering and inviting its women members at all levels and communities to sign up their names against violence to women, who have been, being and will be experienced from violence.

Speak out for these women. Add your name to demonstrate that there is an ever-growing movement of people who demand that ending violence against women be a top priority.

UNIFEM will hand over the signatures to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in conjunction with the International Day for the Eliminations of Violence against Women, to support his efforts.
