President’s call to Women’s Union

Viet Nam’s leading women’s organisation has been asked to boost its support network.

President Nguyen Minh Triet has called o­n the Viet Nam Women’s Union to create more conditions for women to exercise their strengths and contribute more to society and family life.

Triet was speaking at a working session with the Union’s Central Committee yesterday.

The President said the Party, State and people always highly valued women’s role both in the family and society as a whole.

The Union should help women boost their emulation movements and implement the campaign to "Study and follow Ho Chi Minh’s virtue," Triet said.

The Union should develop its branches in every region and expand its activities to Vietnamese women living in foreign countries to help raise Vietnamese women’s role in the international arena. The Union should also pay more attention to training cadres, he said.

At the working session, the participants expressed their aspirations and proposals for gender equality and women’s progress.

They said a number of women still faced difficulties in their lives and their jobs, women and girls were still subject to domestic violence and women often lacked information o­n many issues that could cause them problems in daily life.
