Police crack down on women trafficking

The first six months of 2008 witnessed 299 people arrested for women and children trafficking and 185 brought to court, police reported.

At a mid-year meeting held by the Government Steering Board on Women and Children Trafficking Control in Hanoi on July 14, Maj. Gen. Trieu Van Dat, Deputy General Director of the Police General Department under the Ministry of Public Security, said the recent increase in crime has shown a growing trend towards foreign involvement that make the fight ever more difficult than before, the police officer said.

Mr Dat also unveiled a plan of massive police raids on hotbeds along the borderlines in an effort to raise public awareness of the crime problem.
