Police crack down on women trafficking

The first six months of 2008 witnessed 299 people arrested for women and children trafficking and 185 brought to court, police reported.

At a mid-year meeting held by the Government Steering Board o­n Women and Children Trafficking Control in Hanoi o­n July 14, Maj. Gen. Trieu Van Dat, Deputy General Director of the Police General Department under the Ministry of Public Security, said the recent increase in crime has shown a growing trend towards foreign involvement that make the fight ever more difficult than before, the police officer said.


Mr Dat also unveiled a plan of massive police raids o­n hotbeds along the borderlines in an effort to raise public awareness of the crime problem.
