Photos from Vietnam capture exceptional notice

28/12/2006
Photographer Thai Thanh Ngoc's Doi Mat va Ban Tay (Eyes and Hands) was one of just two works by Vietnamese photographers considered "exceptional" by judges at the 67th International Photographic Salon of Japan.

The other was Quang Ngoc Minh's Khoanh Khac Thu Vi (Interesting Moment).

Some 1,417 photographers entered 7,877 photographs in the competition, co-hosted by the All-Japan Association of Photographic Societies and the Asahi Shimbun Newspaper.

Vietnamese photographers won 21 of the 130 prize categories - two of which were for exceptional works. Many of the winning Vietnamese photographers are well-known names in photographic circles.

The winning photographs will be displayed next year in some Japanese cities, including Tokyo.
