On March 28, 2024, the Signing Ceremony of Program “Joint communication and mobilization of women and people to participate in household solid waste management in the term of 2024 - 2027” took place between Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) and Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) in Ha Noi.
VWU President Ha Thi Nga, MONRE Minister Dang Quoc Khanh and delegates at the event

Speaking at the ceremony, VWU President, Mrs. Ha Thi Nga shared that among national development strategies and industry development policies in Vietnam, gender and environment in general, women and environment in particular are identified as cut-crossing issues and important targets. In work and daily life, women are more exposed to the environment than men with a more sensitive biological nature than men. Especially in polluted and degraded conditions, women often experience unusual health problems due to exposure to pollutants. However, they are proactive factors and crucial force in environment and public health protection as first educators.

VWU President Ha Thi Nga speaks at the event

Deeply aware of the importance of environment protection, the VWU has identified it as one of the major tasks over the past terms through many activities, such as “Building 5-withouts and 3-cleans families” campaign, “National target Program for building new rural areas” and “Anti-plastic waste" movement. Good practices and creative models have been actively implemented by the WU at all levels, creating a change in awareness and action to protect the environment of every WU staff, member, woman and community and affirming the role and responsibility of women and the WUs in ensuring environmental sustainability.

Mrs. Nga highlighted today’s signing ceremony between the MONRE and the VWU remains a very meaningful work, concretizing the National Environmental Protection Strategy to 2030 with a vision to 2050, contributing to the implementation of regulations of the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 on classification of household solid waste at source.

MONRE Minister Dang Quoc Khanh speaks at the event

At the event, MONRE Minister, Mr. Dang Quoc Khanh acknowledged the VWU always pays attention to directing, actively informing and mobilizing members and women to participate in environmental protection. He believes this coordination program will attract nationwide people to household solid waste management, effectively contributing to environmental works to achieve the goals of environmental protection and climate change response identified by Resolution of the 13th Party Congress.
