Join hands to prevent harmful effects of tobacco
The participants at the meeting At the meeting, VWU Vice President Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Huong said that Vietnamese women in general rarely smoked cigarettes but in some areas of the Central Highlands, women smoking was common and had become a custom.
"Currently, the VWU is implementing Project 8 on realizing gender equality and solving urgent issues for women and children in ethnic minority areas. This will be an opportunity to change people's perceptions and repel harmful practices to people's lives", Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Huong shared.

In addition, young people smoke e-cigarettes quite a lot and this is a target group that needs communicating in the coming time.
At the meeting, Ms. Truong Thi Thu Thuy, Director General of Family and Social Affairs Department, Vietnam Women's Union shared VWU’s activities on tobacco harm prevention. The VWU actively participates in contributing opinions on issues related to tobacco harm prevention and control, especially the impacts on women and children’s health in some draft laws and legal documents. The VWU has also made in-depth gender mainstreaming inputs in the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases, including the issue of reducing the risk of secondhand smoking for women and children.
