Join hands for Vietnamese women's health
The event was attended by President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam as well as representatives from ministries, agencies, enterprises and benefactors.
The launching ceremony "Join hands for Vietnamese women's health” isto call for and gratefully acknowledge the support from businesses, benefactors and the community to poor and near poor women, thus enabling them to afford health insurance cards and treatment costs of serious diseases.
Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien
According to Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, health insurance cards have special significance in helping women from difficult backgrounds to have opportunities to fight diseases and win. However, for near poor households, although the State has paid 70% of the total health insurance premiums, only 35% of those eligible joined the insurance scheme due to their insufficient financial capacity to contribute the remaining 30%. This hinders near poor households, particularly women to access health care and other social security services.
VWU President Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa 
Speaking at the ceremony, VWU President Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa emphasized "Join hands for Vietnamese women's health” is a practical and humanistic activity aimed at providing greater and better care for the women’s lives. The VWU, on its responsibility, will further promote its communication to raise the awareness of health care among to women throughout the country and motivate them to actively participate in health insurance schemes for themselves and their families; strengthen the Union’s activities to facilitate women's participation in health insurance, thus contributing to building happy families and ensuring social security.
In his speech at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam appreciated the joint initiative of the Vietnam Women's Union and the Ministry of Health to organize the program "Join hands for Vietnamese women's health”, affirmed the importance of women’s health care and the advocacy for the universal participation in health insurance among the populace.
At the launching ceremony, enterprises and benefactors contributed a remarkable amount of money. It is expected that the donation would enable more than 6 million near poor women to access health insurance.
