Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan emphasized that Vietnam has paid due attention to social development, particularly hunger elimination and poverty reduction. The Deputy Prime Minister also said that the ambassador's visit will contribute to promoting the relations between Vietnam and the United Nations, as well as between Vietnam and Japan- the native land of the ambassador - a well known actress and writer – Misako Konno.

In the evening of August 19, at the headquarter of the Vietnam Embassy to Argentina, being authorized by the State President Tran Duc Luong, the Vietnam Ambassador to Argentina conferred “The Friendship Medal of the State of Vietnam” to Ms. Pondi Sosa Smith, President of Argentina-Vietnam Cultural Institute (ICAV) for her active participation in the anti - war movements in support to Vietnam and her continuing contributions to the cause of the Vietnamese people. Ms.Pondi confirmed that she would try her best to contribute to the further development of the friendship and cooperation between the peoples of the two countries, being worthy of the noble reward conferred by the Government of Vietnam.
