Gifts presented to Agent Orange children in Da Nang

Seventy gifts, each worth VND100,000, have been presented to children nursed at the Centre for Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims in the central city of Da Nang.

Former Vice State President Nguyen Thi Binh, who is now President of the Fund for Supporting Vietnamese Children and Honourable President of the Vietnam Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims’ Association, handed over the gifts to the disadvantaged children o­n July 5.


Many local agencies and enterprises also presented gifts to the victims o­n the occasion of the upcoming Day for AO Victims (August 10).


The Da Nang Centre for AO/Dioxin Victims, which was established in September 2006, provides rehabilitation treatment and vocational training for 70 AO/dioxin-affected children.

 

More than 3,000 disadvantaged children in Da Nang are expected to benefit from the “Fund of o­ne Million Glasses of Milk” initiated by the National Fund for Vietnamese Children and Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (Vinamilk).


Under the project, to which Vinamilk pledged to donate products worth at least VND3 billion, 20 free milk boxes will be distributed to each of 50,000 needy kids in 14 cities and provinces nationwide in July and August.

Vietnam’s milk usage per capita is among the lowest in the region and world. A Vietnamese drinks six litres of milk o­n average per year, compared to 22 litres in Thailand and 26 litres in China.
