France continues to support Vietnamese AO victims

22/11/2005
The Collectif Vietnam Dioxin in France has called on people and organisations in the world to support the lawsuit filed by Vietnamese Agent Orange victims against American chemical companies that produced the toxin used by US troops during the American war in Viet Nam

The call was made during a week-long campaign for AO victims ahead of the  American Veterans' Day (Nov. 11). In its statement, the Collectif Vietnam Dioxin said although the war in Viet Nam ended 30 years ago, many Vietnamese are still suffering from the chemicals used by American army during the 1961-1971 period.

The statement went on to say that about 1 million people are contracting strange diseases, including cancer and birth defects, caused by the spraying of herbicide and defoliant that contained AO/dioxin. In particular, about 200,000 third generation children  were born with defects and many other disabilities. However, the American government and chemical companies in the past 30 years have not been held responsible for the AO victims.

The call was responded by many French organisations, including the France-Vietnam Friendship Organisation, the Republic Veterans Association, the Committee for Van Canh Friendship Village and the French Peace Movement. A get-together will also be held at Champ de Mars Square on Nov. 7 in Paris.
