A meeting with female athletes and trainers who will join the 23rd Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines was held in Hanoi yesterday by the Vietnam Women’s Union and the National Committee for Sports and Physical Training

Sixty female athletes representing 280 athletes training at the Hanoi-based National Sports Centre No 1 attended the meeting.

Female athletes have made great contribution to the success of the Vietnamese sports delegations since the 16th SEA Games, said Dang Ngoc Tuan, director of the sports centre.

He added that the number of medals female athletes won at the 22nd SEA Games in Vietnam accounted for 48% of the total medals gained by Vietnamese athletes. Vietnamese female athletes are determined to gain 50% of the total medals due to be won by athletes of Vietnam at the 23rd event, Mr Tuan said.

The Vietnam Women’s Union expressed their confidence in Vietnam’s female athletes and said female athletes and trainers should try their best to bring pride to the nation at the 23rd event in the Philippines.

The women’s union presented VND 50 million at the meeting to female athletes and trainers to encourage them compete well at the 23rd SEA Games.
