Fatherland Front urged to gather more domestic, overseas intellectuals
PM Dung made the remark during a working session in Ha Noi on Jan. 21 with the Presidium of the VFF Central Committee on cooperation between the VFF and the Government.
The PM praised the VFF's role in gathering people from all walks of life to build the great national united bloc, as well as in implementing the poverty reduction movement, and helping the Government and the Prime Minister fulfill their duties.
The PM highlighted the VFF's increased role in encouraging the people to work for national socio-economic development, combat corruption, practise thrift, and take part in social movement to build a new lifestyle and help disadvantaged people.
He requested the VFF to closely cooperate with the Government in implementing key tasks in 2007, including the ensurance of rapid and stable socio-economic development; the promotion of the fight against corruption and administration reform. The VFF should also coordinate with the Government in making, disseminating and enforcing laws thus raising the VFF's involvement in the law making process as a whole.
According to the VFF Central Committee, last year, the VFF hosted a successful congress of ethnic groups in the Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands), helped organise important events of some religions, and held the All-People Great Unity Festive Day in residential quarters. The VFF-sponsored movement to build new cultural life in residential quarters has gained remarkable results. The "Day for the Poor" movement has been organised effectively over the past six years. The fund for the poor has raised more than 1,700 billion VND.
In 2006, the Government coordinated effectively with the VFF Central Committee in strengthening the national great unity bloc, bringing into play the people's right to mastery, fighting and preventing corruption; drafting new laws and conducting amnesty.
