Delegation of the Vietnam Women’s Union attend the 15th Congress of the Women’s International Democratic Federation
With the theme “The women of the whole world building the fair peace with rights, equality and development”,the Congress approved the revised Statues, Report of the WIDF Executive Committee, and elected President and Vice-presidents. During the Congress, participants discussed some topics such as: impacts of economical crisis towards women, climate changes and food security, women’s approaches to equality, development and peace, the development of WIDF… In the framework of the Congress, other activities such as: III Meeting of Young Women, “Walk Women for just peace”, III Festival of Nations and Celebration of the unity of women worldwide with the presence of some Brazilian women leaders… were also organised.
The 5-persons delegation from Vietnam Women’s Union was headed by Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, Member of the Central Communist Party, VWU President. VWU delegation actively participated in activities of the Congress. Speaking at the Congress, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa highlighted Vietnam’s achievements of gender equality, the policies of the Party, the State and the Government on women, and VWU experiences in poverty reduction, vocational training and job generation for women. She affirmed that as the country had experienced wars in the past, the Vietnamese people, especially women, wished to live in a country of peace, independence, freedom, prosperity and happiness. At the young women’s forum as part of the congress, the Vietnamese film titled, “The Paths to Justice” was screened to continue the call for world support for Agent Orange victims.
Mrs. Macia Campos was re-elected to be the WIDF President for the 3rd tenure. The Congress also elected 5 vice-presidents representing Asia, Europe, Africa, America and Arabian countries. The Congress approved the WIDF Program of Action, Brasilia Declaration and WIDF Resolutions.
