Ambassador Hugh Borrowman during his post in Vietnam has made great contributions to promoting the friendship and cooperation relations between Australia and Vietnam, and enhancing gender equality in Vietnam. He has actively supported the Women Unions’ programs and projects on women empowerment, and promoted Australian scholarship awards for Vietnamese women and capacity building activities for VWU staff.
Mr Hugh Borrowman said he was impressed by the VWU network and its efforts in Australian-supported projects on women economic empowerment, domestic violence, gender imbalance at birth, clean water and environmental sanitation, climate change, and mother and child healthcare. "The relationship between VWU and the Australian Embassy is not just supporting and collaborating one but real partnership. We would have been unable to complete our tasks without the cooperation of the Vietnamese partners, especially the VWU", he said. Mr. Ambassador hoped the two sides would continue to develop cooperation action plans, including those on women empowerment, based on achievements gained so far.
