Care for women's work means care for foundation of social development
Member of the Politburo, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilization Truong Thi Mai and more than 100 participants from the Central Council of Theories, central ministries and agencies attended the seminar.
Addressing the workshop, Member of the Party Central Committee, VWU President Nguyen Thi Thu Ha reiterated the Party’s constant attention to women mobilization and the Party’s appreciation of the role played by women and by the VWU, thus making the VWU an important component of the political system and a "bridge" connecting the Party and the State to the people in general and to women in particular.
The Party's leadership towards women’s work and the VWU operation has been established from very early on a thorough basis through guidelines, directions and resolutions, through institutional building and staffing for women mobilization in the whole political system with the VWU and VWU staff served as the core, and through inspection, supervision, education, persuasion, and setting good examples.
As a result, women mobilization has seen positive results, including enhanced awareness of both political system and the society about women’s roles and women's work, improved women's qualifications, capacities, roles and positions, and broader networking and better performance of the Vienam Women's Unions at all levels.
However, the Party's leadership towards the VWU operation and women mobilization needs to be renewed due to women's changing needs, impacts of the socialist-oriented market economy and international integration towards women's work and VWU’s activities, and the requirements to ensure the VWU’s political character and promote its social, autonomous and voluntary attributes at the same time.
At the workshop, there were over 20 presentations and interventions, mentioning factors affecting women mobilization in the current period as well as challenges and difficulties for women. Accordingly, the delegates proposed solutions to renew the Party's leadership towards women mobilization and the VWU in the new context in order to promote gender equality in personnel policies of the Party, promote democracy, and engage more active participation in the Party building by VWU members and women in general.
Speaking at the Workshop, Member of Politburo, Head of the Commission for People’s Mobilization Mme. Truong Thi Mai emphasized that the Politburo Resolution No. 11 on women's work is a pioneer one with very specific targets, many of which however have yet to be achieved. She requested the workshop to focus on resolving the challenges which are closely related to each other. It is necessary to clarify the nature of the socialist-oriented market economy and how it affects all aspects of women's life and women's work. It needs also comprehensively evaluate the regulations of the market economy to specify opportunities and challenges for women in general and vulnerable women in particular.
The VWU needs to take on comments and suggestions given at the workshop and apply into the direction of the women's movement as well as to advise the Party on women's work. According to Mme. Mai, not only the VWU but also of the whole political system needs to take responbility for women's work. There must be close coordination within the political system as regards to women’s work so as women can receive more support from family and society, gain equal opportunities to develop in the overall development of the country, and participate fully in the Party and the State activities. There must be a mechanism of regular check and supervision together with setting good examples to ensure effective implementation of resolutions and policies in reality.
