Appreciation for Kovalevskaia Award founder

Leaders of the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) and President of the Kovalevskaia Award Committee in Vietnam had a meeting with Mr. Neal Koblitz, Director of the Kovalevskaia Fund on December 5 in Hanoi.

Attending the reception were Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thi Doan - former State Vice President, President of the Kovalevskaia Award Committee in Vietnam; VWU President Ha Thi Nga and representatives of Kovalevskaia Award winners.

Speaking at the meeting, VWU President Ha Thi Nga expressed her deep gratitude to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Doan and Prof. Neal Koblitz for their significant contributions to the advancement of Vietnamese women in general and female scientists through the Kovalevskaia Fund.

Over the past 38 years, the fund has awarded 53 individuals and 22 collectives in the areas of natural sciences and basic sciences as well as presented scholarships to outstanding female students.

She also believed that the Kovalevskaia Award will continuingly be maintained and nurtured as a prestigious award inspiring female scientists to research and contribute to the country’s development.

Sharing at the meeting, Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thi Doan said that she was honored to be the President of the Kovalevskaia Award Committee in Vietnam - a noble award of the Vietnamese women.

She also expressed her affection and gratitude to Prof. Neal Koblitz and his wife who founded the Kovalevskaia Award. Thanks to this prize, there have been many outstanding research projects and products demonstrating the talents of female scientists; thereby strongly inspiring Vietnamese women.

Prof. Neal Koblitz showed his happiness knowing that the Kovalevskaia Award has received great attention and support in Vietnam, especially from Party and State leaders. He also believed that the Award will continue to be maintained and further developed in Vietnam in the coming time.

Mr. Neal Koblitz also mentioned that the Kovalevskaia Award only sets general principles, while the criteria for the award will be determined by each host country. Additionally, he hopes that the Award will get various financial supports so that it can sustain and always be an inspiration for female scientists.
