09/04/2008
The American Catalyst Foundation NGO has begun a 10- day Aid Expedition 2008 to two southern provinces and Ho Chi Minh City.

From March 21 to April 1, over 100 American and 40 Vietnamese volunteers will repair schools and build 12 new houses for poor people and orphaned children in the city and Dong Thap and Kien Giang provinces.

The Foundation will also hand over 250 bicycles and 300 other gifts, organise medical check-ups for 2.5000 orphaned children, and provide scholarships and loans for poor people.

A two-day camp in Long Hai beach, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, will be organised for 300 poor and orphaned children at the end of the trip.

In 2007 the Catalyst Foundation built a primary school and a library in Rach Gia, Kien Giang, for 100 children living on waste ground.

The foundation was set up in 1999 to help orphaned, abandoned, homeless and sexually-abused children in Vietnam.

Dozens of Vietnamese children adopted by foreigners have returned to the country to take part in the expedition.
