900 minority ethnic households benefit from nutrition and health project
Nine hundred ethnic households in two communes in Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province, will be benefit from a project, sponsored by an Italian NGO, UCODEP.
Entitled 'Enhancing the health and nutrition autonomy', the project aims at improving the living standard for local people, in particular women and children.
The project consists of following five key components: health network; traditional medicine; clean water supply and sanitation; women and children health education (reproductive health and mother and child health) with particular attention towards nutrition and management of the local natural resources; and saving and credit scheme.
The project, capitalised at EUR 1.36 million, of which EUR 683,000 comes from the Italian Government, EUR 212,000 from UCODEP, and the remainder from the Vietnamese side, will be implemented from 2008 to 2011.
