11th Vietnam-Korea Women’s Forum: Enhancing Women’s Role in Green Economic Development

On September 10, 2024, the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) collaborated with the Korean Women's Development Institute hosted the 11th Vietnam-Korea Women’s Forum themed "Green Economy and Women’s Contributions." The event aimed to enhance the cooperation relationship between the two organizations, following the Memorandum of Understanding signed between them.

The event saw the participation of high-ranking officials and representatives from various sectors and organizations in both Viet Nam and Korea.

The forum aimed to share experiences and initiatives regarding women’s contributions to the green economy while raising awareness about gender equality and sustainable development, enhancing Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

In her opening speech, Ms. Ha Thi Nga, President of the Vietnam Women's Union, highlighted the significance of the 11th Vietnam-Korea Women's Forum as a meaningful event to deepen the cooperation relationship between women from both nations. Over the past decade, this annual forum has become an essential bridge for women from the two countries to connect, share experiences, and develop together. Throughout ten editions of the forum, we have discussed various issues that women of the two countries are interested in such as policies to support the development of female human resources, female entrepreneurs and job creation for female workers, Vietnam - Korea international marriage, safety for women and children, digital transformation, Covid-19 from a gender perspective, women and people's diplomacy, building a culture of peace...  Furthermore, the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the VWU and the Korea Women Parliamentarian Network (KWPN) at this forum would further strengthen friendly cooperation and enhance the comprehensive strategic partnership between Viet Nam and South Korea.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the world faces pressing issues such as environmental degradation and climate change, highlighting the importance of green economic development as an important and inevitable trend in the global sustainable development agenda. Both Viet Nam and Korea have made strong commitments to pursue green growth.

Recognizing the crucial role of women as key contributors to natural resource management, environmental protection, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and green tourism, the forum "Green Economy and Women’s Contributions" was organized to facilitate knowledge exchange and showcase initiatives related to women's roles in green economic development. VWU President Ha Thi Nga emphasized that Korea's progress in green growth and women's empowerment provides valuable insights for Viet Nam’s transition to a green economy.

Dr. Kim Jong Sook, President of the Korean Women’s Development Institute, noted that the forum has evolved into a significant platform for collaboration between Korean and Vietnamese women since its establishment in 2013. This year's event signifies a pivotal step towards the future, building on the past decade's achievements. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the VWU and the KWPN would set the stage for strengthened collaboration moving forward.
