“Women and traffic safety” Club opened by Ho Chi Minh Women’s Union
Open to women and WU members with some experience in traffic safety communication, the club aims at helping its members improve their communication and mobilization skills as core advocates on traffic safety in the grassroots.
The club is operated with the principle of democratic centralism. The club management board is responsible to directly manage the club. All club members have the rights to discuss, decide club’s work and contribute ideas to develop contents and working method of the club for better performance.
According to the club’s motto, each member is a traffic safety communicator, mobilizing WU members and women to actively study Law on Road Traffic. The club also promote women’s role in encouraging good behaviors in traffic and; mobilizing people to respond to the Traffic Safety Year 2012. The utmost goal is to improve the people’s awareness when participating in traffic, implement the cultural, civilized lifestyle with polite behaviors in the community, contributing to the building “prosperous, equal, progressive, happy and sustainable” Vietnamese families.
In the coming time, the club will concentrate on persuading WU members and women not to occupy roadway, pavement and traffic corridor for selling and opening markets; to wear helmets and not to carry bulky objects, carry an umbrella or talk on mobile phones when riding a motorbike; not to allow their children and relatives of under 18 years old to ride motorbikes; not to drive after drinking alcohol or drive without a driving license, etc.
This club model will be replicated in 14 wards as a contribution to traffic safety preservation in the locality.
