  • Four Vietnamese females attend Hitachi Young Leaders Initiatives forum

    The Hitachi Young Leaders Initiatives forum (HYLI) Wednesday announced the name of the four Vietnamese who will represent Vietnamese students at the forum.
  • Miss Vietnam enters top 17 at Miss World


    At the final night of the Miss World Pageant in Warsaw last Saturday, Miss Vietnam Mai Phuong Thuy was selected as one of the top 17 candidates.

  • ActionAid continues to help Vietnam combat human trafficking

    A report on the trafficking of Vietnamese women and children by ActionAid International Vietnam (AAV) has laid great emphasis on the provision of on-site interventions as a major preventive measure against the crime.
  • Ha Tay women study and work actively as well as build happy families

    Ha Tay Women’s Union has re-launched the emulation movement “Women study and work actively, and build happy families” for the period 2006 to 2011.

  • Caesarean section – fashion of young mothers

    Caesarean sections have become the ‘fashion’ of expectant mothers, particularly the young. That fact is easy to see at hospitals in Hanoi now.
  • Agent Orange victims receive free surgery

    A group of doctors from the Ha Noi Medical University, in coordination with the Kon Tum General Polyclinic, provided free orthopedic surgery to 34 Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin victims in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum between Sep. 11-13.

  • 20,000 copies of working materials for Vietnam Women’s Union cadres, members and women in religious – ethnics areas

    In 2006, 20,000 copies of working materials will be issued by a joint initiative of the Ethnic and Religion Department - Central of VWU and Women Publishing House.
  • Realising a dream with every passing day

    When Huong was born, she suffered an eye malformation, so she kept crying. Her parents took her to various medical facilities for treatment, which all succumbed to her disease.
  • Supporting construction of “Affection Houses” for poor women

    With the guideline “State and people work together”, Son La Women’s Union recently supplied 14 million VND to 2 poor members’ families (H’Mong ethnic minority) in Bac Yen district to build Affection Houses.

    In the afternoon of 3rd August 2006, HCM City Women’s Union organized a press conference to introduce a performance named “Lighting Dreams” to raise Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Scholarship Funds.
  • Girls honored for anti-HIV/AIDS discrimination initiatives

    As many as 14 young individuals and one organisation were presented prizes for their initiatives to reduce discrimination against HIV/AIDS-positive persons at a ceremony held in Ha Noi on Aug.28.
  • Vietnamese, Chinese children join fight against human trafficking

    Vietnamese and Chinese children have expressed their desire to play a role in programmes to counter the trafficking of children and women.
  • Cooperation in conducting a concentrated campaign to combat against the crime of trafficking in women and children

    In June 28, 2006, the VWU Presidium promulgated a document to provide guideline to provincial/municipal Women’s Unions that share borders with China and Cambodia to organize and conduct a concentrated campaign to combat against the crime of trafficking in women and children through borders Viet Nam – China and Viet Nam – Cambodia.

  • American Global Exchange grants 43 female pupils of Hoa Binh with scholarships

    American Global Exchange (GX) has granted $4,300 US to disadvantaged female pupils of Hoa Binh Province. These young girls successfully surpassed many difficulties and studied effectively in 2006.

  • Hanoi girl crowned Miss Vietnam 2006

    On August 26, a Hanoi girl, Mai Phuong Thuy, was crowned Miss Vietnam 2006 at the Vinapearl Resort in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province.


  • Lodging complaints with the PM via government website

    Citizens can now lodge complaints with the Prime Minister via the government’s website at www.chinhphu.vn.
  • The Director of sanatorium center in Nghe An province received the present of Central WU

    On the 59 anniversary of Day for Martyrs and War Invalids (27/7/1947-27/7/2006), a delegation of the Central VWU visited and gave presents to staff and wounded soldiers of sanatorium center for wounded soldiers in Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces.
  • 250 Invalid People In Phu Tho Province Receive Wheelchairs

    On 27 July, 2006, 250 wheelchairs with the total value of over 12.000 USD were granted by the Latter–Day Saint Charities to the disabled in Phu Tho Province.
  • 6 Suggestions Related to Marriage between Vietnamese Women and Foreigners - Submitted to the Party and the Government

    The VWU’s Presidium in Ho Chi Minh City hosted a conference titled “Marital Issue’s Between Vietnamese Women and Foreigners”. Taking place on June, 9 – 10, 2006, the conference came up with 6 suggestions to the Party and the Government, as follows:
