The Review Conference of Vietnam Women’s Union on the 10-year implementation (1996-2006) of the Politburo’s Ordinance No. 06 on enhancing leadership and direction to the task of drug prevention and control was held on 29th December 2006.

On 20th December 2006, the Youth newspaper published the article “Vietnamese women were marketed to Malaysia”, the Vietnam Women’s Union sent an official correspondence on 22nd Dec. 2006 to the Embassy of Vietnam in Malaysia asking for justification of the cases and prompt intervention if necessary”. On the 28th Dec. 2006, the Embassy sent the fax no. 506 singed by Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung replying the VWU’s request as the followings:

A Finnish-funded project to control trafficking in women and children and encourage safe migration among females has been deployed in the Red River Delta province of Nam Dinh, focusing on preventive measures.

The Spanish Agency for International Cooperation has pledged 3 million Euros for Viet Nam to implement its gender equality programme, which costs a total of 3.7 million Euros.

Viet Nam is resolved to implement all provisions of the UN Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and fulfill the Millennium Development Goals on gender equality before the year 2015, said a senior official in charge of women affairs.

A student of Ha Noi city was nominated for the 2007 World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) award for her research on making fungus product for preventing plant-killing insects.
