On November 20th, 1981, ACWO was formally established at a meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia. The meeting was held in conjunction with the reactivation of the ASEAN Women's Programme (AWP), the ASEAN Governments' grouping charged with the responsibility of women in development programmes.

In the morning of 7th September, 2010, Mme. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, President of the VWU warmly welcomed Ms. Lotta Sylwander- Representative of UNICEF in Vietnam on the occasion of her new position.

At the invitation of the Vietnam Women’s Union, the delegation (8 leaders) from Women Involved in Nation Building of the Philippines headed by Ms. Corazon del Mundo, its President had paid a visit to Vietnam.

Recently, TYM Fund conducted training on micro-finance for cadres working at the Fund for Women and Family Development of Laos Women’s Union. This activity is under the cooperation framework among TYM Fund of Vietnam Women’s Union, Germany Savings Bank and Laos Women’s Union.

HA NOI — Viet Nam would like to co-operate with the UK to address the challenges of poverty alleviation and climate change, said Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan.

On May 14th 2010, Vice President of the Vietnam Women’s Union Mme. H’Ngam Nie K’Dam met with the delegation from the Communist Party of Bangladesh led by Party Chairman Mr. Manzurul Ahsan Khan, during their official visit to Vietnam to attend the international workshop on Ho Chi Minh’s legacy in the present era.

The heads of the Vietnamese and Cambodian unions for women on April 13 vowed to boost co-operation among women, and the people in general, of the two countries, particularly in border provinces.

The ASEAN Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC) was officially established in Hanoi on April 7, with 20 members from 10 ASEAN nations taking part.

In 1993, a Swiss woman named Aline Rebeaud crossed paths with young disabled children and orphans in Vietnam. Rebeaud, a painter, has since closely connected her life with them. Nicknamed "Mother Tim", she is beloved by many.

On November 6th, 2009, Mr. Michel Ricart - Mayor of Lognes (France), President of MARNASIA, visited VWU and handed-over the amount of 5,500 euros to help Vietnamese children in difficulty.

The Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) on November 3 received Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Men Sam On, who is also President of the Cambodian Women for Peace and Development Association (CWPD), President of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians' Group and President of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association.

 

The special relationship between Vietnam and Laos, which has experienced many challenges and continuously developed over the years, is a priceless asset and a resource for the two countries’ development.

Accomplished lawyer balances public life with family responsibilities

On behalf of the VWU’s Presidium, Vice President H’Ngam Nie KDam conferred the honor medal on Mme. Eva Lindskog (a Swedish expert) to acknowledge her great contribution to Vietnamese women, especially women in isolated and ethnic minority areas on 7 September 2009 at the Headquarter of VWU.

On 6 July 2009, Mme. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, President of VWU received Mr. Bruce Campbell, Head representative of UNFPA in Vietnam to pay a courtesy visit and find possible cooperation between VWU and UNFPA on the occasion of taking up his duties as head representative of UNFPA in Vietnam.

Choummaly Sayasone, General Secretary of the Lao People Revolutionary Party and President, highly valued the sincere and effective assistance from the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) to Laos while receiving a high-level delegation of the VWU in Vientiane on July 16.

On July 9, 2009, the VWU’s First Vice President Nguyen Thi Kim Thuy with Deputy Directors of some VWU’s Departments welcomed the delegation of the German Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs led by Mr. Klaus Braundner, Secretary of State, on the occasion of their working visit to Vietnam.

In a makeshift room inside an unfinished building in the Manyatta slums in the Western Kenyan city of Kisumu, the neighbourhood’s men regularly congregate to discuss community matters, usually in the presence of the area chief.

Dame Clemence perfume has appeared at some small cosmetic stores in Hanoi and also at sauna centres of five-star hotels in Hanoi. The fragrances of citronella, ginger, perrila and pomelo have surprised foreign visitors.

In the afternoon of May 29th 2009, Mrs. Pham Hoai Giang, VWU Presidium member, Head of the International Relations Department welcomed Mrs. HeeWon Brindle-Khym, NGO and Trade Union Coordinator of the Fair Labor Association to visit and work with VWU.

With the invitation of President of Korea Women Inventors Association (KWIA) and World Intellectual Property Organization, Mme. Nguyen Thi Kim Thuy, Vice President of Vietnam Women’s Union headed the Vietnamese women delegation to attend the 2nd Forum and Exposition: “Korea International Women’s Invention Forum 2009” in Seoul, the Republic of Korea, during 29th April – 5th May, 2009.

The Vietnam Women Union delegation headed by Mme. Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh – Alternative member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Women’s Union paid a working visit to China during April 5th -10th, 2009.

On April 22, the Ministry of Education and Training organized a signing ceremony of emulation movement “Building friendly schools and active students” for the period of 2009 – 2013 in coordination with the Vietnam Women’s Union and the Learning Promotion Association. Taking part in this ceremony are representatives of the Central Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.

Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) founded in 1930 is a socio-political organization which is mandated to protect the legal rights and legitimate interests of women in Vietnam. In the history of its development, particularly since DOI MOI (Renovation), VWU has taken various measures such as vocational training, loans providing, awareness raising, and technical transferring, ect. to help women in poverty alleviation for their livelihood improvement and social status enhancement. To realize its missions, besides internal resources, VWU also mobilized and made use of international support from donors (GOs and NGOs) including Marie Schlei Association (Germany).
