Responding to the Month of Action for the Environment and World Environment Day (June 5), VWU at all levels across the country is promoting women's active participation in environmental protection for a greener, cleaner, safer life.

On March 28, 2024, the Signing Ceremony of Program “Joint communication and mobilization of women and people to participate in household solid waste management in the term of 2024 - 2027” took place between Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) and Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) in Ha Noi.

International integration brings both opportunities and challenges for women in various fields. Women need to enhance their knowledge and skills to avoid the risk of falling behind. To support women's proactive and effective integration, the Central Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) directed the development of some models for supporting women's integration in 2021.

On November 14, the Vietnam Women's Union organized a review conference on the “Anti-Plastic Waste” movement, period 2018 - 2023. The movement, deeply embedded in all strata of women nationwide into a spirited and widespread effort, aiming to join hands collecting, recycling, and reducing single-use plastic waste, for environmental protection.

On the afternoon of September 26, in Ninh Binh province, the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) coordinated with the Ninh Binh Provincial Women's Union to organize the forum "Women join hands to protect the environment" in response to the 2023 campaign “Make the world cleaner”.

According to national statistics, an average of about 1.8 million tonnes of plastic waste is generated annually in Vietnam, of which 90% is buried, filled or incinerated, and only 10% recycled. Meanwhile, 90% of scrap collectors and scavengers are women, a job that exposes them to a toxic environment that negatively affects their health.

The Centre for Social Research and Development (CSRD) on March 29 held a workshop in the central city of Hue to summarise the results of its project on enhancing women’s role in increasing the resilience of the coastal community and eco-system in the central region of Vietnam.

On September 14, the Vietnam Women's Union held the seminar "Promoting gender equality in environmental protection". This is the first in the VWU’s series of activities in response to the 2022 campaign “To make the world cleaner”.

On the morning of June 24, 2021, the Central VWU and the East Meets West organized the awarding ceremony of the contest "Innovative Women - Developing solutions to improve sanitation and access to safe water for climate change response and social inclusion” for 6 winners in the Mekong Delta region.

In response to the Action Month for the Environment and the World Environment Day on June 5, 2021, the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) is organizing an online contest "Women join hands to restore the ecosystem".

UN Women was one of a number of UN agencies and civil society representatives advocating for gender mainstreaming during talks at the UN Climate Change Conference in Cancún, Mexico (COP16), where Governments convened to negotiate how the international community should combat global warming after the Kyoto Protocol meets its end date in 2012. This year, the major theme of the International Environment Day in Ho Chi Minh City was “For streets Free from garbage”

Once every a few days, Bettina Martin leaves Hanoi for Tam Dao National Park where she participates in the Project of Managing Tam Dao National Park and the Buffer Zone.
