On the morning of June 23, at the headquarters of the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) in Hanoi, VWU Vice President Nguyen Thi Thu Hien hosted a meeting to receive the delegation from the Gender Equality and Family Committee of the National Assembly of the Korea, led by Ms. Lee In Seon, Chairperson of the Committee.

Also joining the delegation of the Gender Equality and Family Committee were representatives from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Vietnam and KOICA Vietnam.

At the reception, VWU Vice President Nguyen Thi Thu Hien expressed her delight at welcoming the delegation and appreciated their time and interest in visiting and discussing various issues related to women and gender equality. She briefed the VWU’s structure, functions, and operations, as well as some notable achievements in promoting gender equality in Vietnam.

She emphasized that the VWU is proud to have taken the lead in proposing the National Assembly to enact the Law on Gender Equality in 2006. Since then, the VWU has continued to play a vital role in policy-making and advocacy, especially in developing and providing feedback on laws and policies related to the rights and legitimate interests of women, families, children, and gender equality. The VWU’s core tasks are aiming at promoting the comprehensive development of Vietnamese women, thereby enhancing their status and position across various aspects of social life, contributing to gender equality, and building a civilized and happy society in Viet Nam.

In order to gain these significant achievements in gender equality, the VWU has received valuable cooperation and support from many international organizations, including Korean partners such as the Korean Embassy, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family of Korea, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), and the Korean Women’s Development Institute (KWDI) to name a few.
